Daughter of Smoke and Bone is about a girl, Karou, who lives in Prague. She seems normal enough at a first glance, apart from her bright blue hair. She was brought up by monsters in "elsewhere" by Issa, Brimstone, Twiga, and Yasri. When she got older she got sent to schools and eventually moved away from Brimstone's shop to live in places all over the world with the latest one being in Prague. She attends an Art school with her friend Zuzana, has a creepy ex-boyfriend Kazmir, and has to juggle her life with helping Brimstone, by collecting teeth. When one day she encounters Akiva, she can't shake off the thought of him.
I thought this book was great. It was really original and I loved it. I think that in a way it felt so realistic. Karou had the normal feelings of a teenage girl, she was angry at Kaz, for sharing their shared little secret, and she had Zuzana, who didn't know how to talk to this cute guy she worked with. It was all so normal yet so completely different from normal at the same time. She had a normal life but then there was her life with Brimstone.
I recommend this book for people who like fantasy. Check it out!
